The old man\u2019s face collapsed.<\/p>\n
\u201cYour mother died looking for me.\u201d<\/p>\n
The store went silent.<\/p>\n
Even the salesman stopped breathing.<\/p>\n
The old man reached into his coat and pulled out a soaked envelope, the edges nearly falling apart.<\/p>\n
Inside was an old photograph of a young woman holding a baby wrapped in blue.<\/p>\n
On the back, in faded ink, were the words:<\/p>\n
Daniel, if you ever find this, your father loved you before he ever held you.<\/strong><\/p>\n Daniel\u2019s eyes filled.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s my mother.\u201d<\/p>\n The old man nodded, tears running into his beard.<\/p>\n \u201cYour grandfather told me you both died. He said if I came near the family, he\u2019d have me arrested.
